The Intranet Innovation Awards

The Intranet Innovation Awards are the awards that recognize and reward intranet innovation and excellence. This does not mean that in order to qualify for an award that an organization have the World’s best intranet, but merely a very innovative quality, application, or solution to a challenge or strategic objective. Past winners have won awards for smartly deploying SharePoint, or the successful participation and engagement of employees via social media, or by delivering ROI and cost savings for an organization.

Drawing on the best of intranet work around the world, these awards are unique in their recognition of individual improvements, and not intranets as a whole. Winning teams obtain widespread visibility, a magnificent glass trophy, and more support within their own organizations.

The Intranet Innovation Awards are founded an organized by Australia’s Step Two Designs. Here are their tips to winning an award this year:

  • Review winners from 2007-2010 to get ideas on what’s likely to succeed.
  • Write more rather than less when filling in the descriptive sections of the entry form, and be sure to point out the specific innovations your organization has developed.
  • Provide concrete examples of where benefits have been gained. This could be by providing numbers, examples, stories or quotes (anything that shows the impact of the idea).
  • Focus more on how the change has helped the organization, rather than on what was done (or the technical details).
  • Consider providing ‘before’ and ‘after’ screenshots where appropriate.
  • Remember that submissions are for specific improvements to the intranet, not for the intranet as a whole.
  • Make sure you are submitting for your own intranet, not on behalf of someone else.
  • Don’t be shy! Even small innovations have a good chance of winning if they are unique, or if they provide big benefits for staff.
