I used to work for a firm that developed and sold Intranet systems. I could never understand the big attraction for companies. They seem too complicated and time consuming to help make a company more efficient in most cases.
I can't say that I adore the intranet-in-a-box concept as every organization is different and has different, if not unique, needs. But no system or solution is created equal. An intranet can be a powerful, powerful system… but as in life, you have to spend money to make money and the intranet is no different. It does require an investment of time and money.
