The DiSC Profile is a great tool to use when hiring and selection processes! Thanks for the tips! I found an article about the DiSC Hiring Reports that may help others: http://www.resourcesunlimited.com/shop/DiSC_for_Hiring_Reports.asp, or http://disctests.blogspot.com and click on DiSC Hiring Reports under labels.
There are a lot of organizations that use the DiSC Profile for hiring but most of the things I read say this is a questionable practice. It can certainly be used for evaluating people and trying to determine if they might be a good fit for a position but it's questionable whether or not it's a reliable screening tool. It's not recommended to use it as a stand alone tool for the hiring decision.
You are correct, DISC is only a tool for testing and never should be considered as a stand alone hiring process. Though I certainly never suggested that, and in fact I've never heard of anyone not conducting a screening interview, DISC is a fasciinating tool and I've found it to be quite valuable.
Did you ever visit http://www.peoplekeys.com to user them for hiring. They have a whole battery of assessments beginning with DISC. They are also associated with Discinsights which supplies paper assessments as well.
Peoplekeys is different as it is created for businesses. There are many assessments beyond DISC. They use TEAMS and VALUES assessments, hardskills, etc.
When interviewing, Peoplekeys also gives you interview questions that one may want to ask a candidate based on their results. As mentioned, DISC should never be “Law” for someone's personality, but it is a good guideline to use.
