Fixing a broken intranet

Redesigning an intranet does not mean you are fixing it; a broken intranet requires a lot of work and design is one of the smallest components.

While important, even technology is not the most important ingredient. Far more important to the success of any intranet is people and process.

  1. Thank you very much for the mention Toby. When I spoke with Carmine I did explain to him that a small organization like ours does not really need quite as much of the planning and gauging as big corporations do when it comes to an Intranet. I could like to tell you that I did write up a report on how things are going with the blogging part of the Intranet – and then presented on that very topic at KMWorld & Intranets.
As for the needs of the organization – our needs were much simpler than most of you clients – we needed an organized place to communicate, collaborate, and find information. We wanted to eliminate emails back and forth and we wanted to make sure that the entire staff was connected.
I can tell you that productivity has gone up (I don't know the exact percent), communication is much improved, collaboration is happening where it never happened before, and the staff feel empowered by the fact that they are able to make changes where needed without my assistance.

  2. I followed the plan thouroughly. We are a small adevertising company just working it's way up. The team consists of very motivated people and this strategy plan fitted like a glove. So far the sales have gone up and the promotion part of plan helped that quite a great deal. We are also holding coferences and workshops and this has been the basis of our endevour. Thank you again.

  3. Please fix your print stylesheet! We don't need to print your navigation when we are printing your very useful articles. I have to convert to landscape just to get the whole width on one page.
    Thanks!

  4. Unfortunately, the software provider does not provide this option. However, it is highly easy to copy and paste into Word by highlighting the text and using CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste. Also please not that this is a completely free site and resource, with no advertising, and no revenue. I don't sell anything, and have no plans to. Feel free to use my work or send it to whomever as long as you cite me as the author. Regards, Toby
